A Demand for Corrugated Boxes Rise…
A new study by Cleveland-based Freedonia Group entitled World Corrugated Boxes (2009) forecasts “world demand for corrugated boxes to increase 3.4 percent per year to 213 billion square meters in 2013, in line with real (inflation-adjusted) gains in GDP.
Factors contributing to rising box demand include growth in industrial activities, particularly the manufacturing sector, which often requires corrugated packaging to protect and transport goods. In addition, ongoing developments in small flute and high quality graphic board will allow corrugated boxes to penetrate traditional folding carton applications, especially in the developed world.”
This is a huge industry with around 10,000 paper and paperboard mills in operation globally…
Just think if everyone recycled their boxes and bought used* boxes our world we be in a lot better place. The demand would still be there but the production and distribution would be different!
* Many of the used boxes being sold are not “used” at all. A lot of box manufactures produce boxes with misprints, and overruns and have no use for them!! At BoxIt, we buy those “used” boxes and sell them at a lower price point than “new” boxes (even tho they are new!).
